Memorial day
Sup guys just a blog to talk about what Memorial day means to me! First i just want to thank everyone that sacrificed so i can enjoy this day! Thanks you! What is Memorial day? It is a day that commemorates the members of the United States armed forces who were killed in war! Originally called Decoration Day The Ladies of the South who are Decorating the Graves of the Confederate Dead. Memorial Day was officially proclaimed on 5 May 1868 by General John Logan, national commander of the Grand Army of the Republic. It was recognized by all of the northern states. The South refused to acknowledge the day, honoring their dead on separate days until after World War I. It is now celebrated in almost every State on the last Monday in May. What it means to me is a day of remembrance not only for the soldiers but for my family that i shared the holiday with who are no longer here! Tell me what it means to you and how and what you do on this day!! Have a Good One!!

This day means a lot to me, not so much for being able to do what we do but for remembering the friends that I lost in the Viet Nam war. I was at Ft Benning this past week for a graduation and it was the opening of the traveling Viet Nam wall memorial at the Infantry museum. After visiting the wall it brought back many memories, some good and some bad. But visiting so close to Memorial Day has a special meaning to me this year.

ReplyDeletewhat it means to me, i look at it as a time of rememberance of those who sacrificed their very lives on the battlefield as well as here at home. i myself have not served in the armed forces, i wish i would have, for i believe it is an experience like no other. to ask somebody to trust you with their life, and for you to do the same. what i myself do on this day, go to the many various cemetaries for many hours and clean up the gravesites of the dearly departed, now since i live in the west, it has its obstacles, as a lot of family are buried in the reservation cemetaries, as such i have come across scorpions and rattlesnakes, so as you can see this is why the process is so lengthy, along with decorating we also honor those with fresh flowers, pinwheels, beadwork, loose change, ear rings etc.
